History
The RUMC Foundation exists today because of the visionary actions of Larry Mashburn and Dr. Rev. Malone Dodson. Larry was a partner at a Christian financial planning firm, and Malone was the RUMC Senior Pastor. Together, they assembled a committee in 1989. In 1991, the first annual Malone Dodson Golf Tournament was held, providing the Foundation with funding to start operating under RUMC. Malone was initially humble about the tournament name but was grateful that the tournament was—and still is—a success. In 1998, the RUMC Foundation, Inc. became officially independently incorporated. The first endowments established were the RUMCF Operational Endowment (1991), the Asa David Blitchington Memorial Endowment (1998), and the Charles Wells Endowment (2000). As of 2025, the Foundation has $7 million in investments with strategic partners Georgia United Methodist Foundation. It has over 50 endowments, which grant an average of $200,000 annually!
