• WALKER McCLUNG | 2026 Harry L. Hall Scholar

    [BIO CONTINUED]

He has gone on mission trips to Puerto Rico, Alaska, Jamaica, and Kenya — a breadth of service that reflects both a willing heart and a growing understanding of what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.

Walker was selected for this scholarship because his faith is not inherited or routine — it is hard-won and deeply personal. He has been a committed member of RUMC's youth ministry for years, shaped by leaders like Dr. Ben Mayfield, Jesse Adams, and Mark Kramer, who poured into him and modeled what it looks like to live a Godly life. Through Wednesday night Bible study and Sunday Night Youth, Walker learned both the intellectual and emotional dimensions of faith — how to think critically about Scripture and how to let it meet him in his real life.

That real life included a moment that tested everything. As a sophomore, Walker broke his wrist during football workouts. For someone who had played football since second grade and had quietly built his identity around the game, it shook him. But it also clarified something essential. He had spent years believing he mattered because he played football. The injury stripped that away — and what remained was the truth that God had been pursuing him all along. In his own words, his growth came "not by my own work but by God chasing me down through people at this church."

Walker describes his RUMC journey through three words: loved, valued, and known. He has also been blessed with a group of friends who put Christian brotherhood into action — holding him accountable, praying for him, and loving him well. That community has been as formative as any lesson or mission trip.

Walker has surrendered his life to Christ and found that his identity and value rest in Him alone. He understands what it means to have his hope in Jesus — and even through difficulty, he has found that peace. He is not striving to earn salvation but to grow in genuine relationship with the one who saved him. As he heads to Wheaton College to study Christian Formation and Ministry, he carries with him everything RUMC has poured into him — and a clear sense of calling for what comes next.

In Walker's words: "Jesus Christ has saved my life and is transforming me from the inside out."

The RUMC Foundation, Inc. recognizes Walker's accomplishments and is proud to honor him as a 2026 Harry L. Hall Scholar.
