Bond Family Endowment

Benefiting spiritual outreach

Spiritual Outreach

In today's world, it's simpler than ever to engage with a church community. You can join classes virtually, access online resources, and use meetup apps, all while participating in outreach activities on RUMC campus, city parks and centers, restaurants or events like Alive After Five on a main street. Regardless of how we connect, Christian fellowship has the power to positively impact each person involved. The Bond Family Endowment helps RUMC community provide outreach.

Meet Ernest and Linda Bond

"Join us!" is a familiar invitation from the Bonds, and it only takes one encounter to become friends with them. No wonder their endowment supports spiritual outreach.

Their warmth and kindness are so inviting that everyone is drawn to accompany them wherever they go. Ernie and Linda have been dedicated members of Roswell United Methodist Church since 1977 and active participants in the Bereans Sunday School class since the early years while expecting their first child.

Linda spent years guiding children as an elementary school teacher specializing in reading/comprehension, where her talent for inspiring others through words truly shone. A graduate from Mercer University (BA) and Georgia State University (M.Ed.) and now a retired teacher, she dedicates herself to uplifting friends with thoughtful and lasting messages, adding brightness to any occasion.

Ernie had a way of spreading joy with a calm glance and a gentle smile. His love for family was deep. He graduated from Emory University (BA - Geology, Delta Tau Delta president) and Georgia State University (MBA). He served in the Army National Guard of Georgia. Ernie was as a lay delegate to the North Georgia Annual Conference, served as a Stephen Minister and was on the Board of Stewards. He worked at AT&T in Federal Regulations his entire professional life.

Linda and Ernie married in 1973 and have two children, Dawson (Emmy) Bond and Sarah (Richard) Shockley; and three grandchildren, Anderson Bond, Davis Bond and Mary Taylor Shockley.

They both were seen around campus with big smiles and TONS of kind hospitality. You’d think all the time they spend with the family kept them busy, they also wrapped their arms around everyone they knew.

  • They treat every one like family. At least the family everyone should have.

  • Ernie was responsible for the biggest event of my life when he talked me into going on a blind date one evening in 1969. That date turned into a wonderful lifetime with my Lynda Marie, 51 years of marriage and four great children.
