
Harry Hall Scholarship Fund
The RUMC Foundation, Inc.’s Harry L. Hall Scholarships are awarded annually to Roswell United Methodist Church members who are currently seniors in high school and will be enrolling in a college or university for the upcoming fall semester. The scholarships are made payable to the college or university that the recipient will be attending to cover the recipient’s tuition or other applicable expenses. Each year, the RUMC Foundation’s Board of Directors will award up to $1,000 to as many individual students as possible that come from the prior year’s Harry L. Hall Endowment’s investment earnings.
2020 Scholarship Recipients
Colby Picchi
Colby has been a member at RUMC since she was born. She grew up attending Kidz Zone on Sunday mornings and later on Sunday school at the Dod. She has enjoyed attending the Chapel Roswell service on Sunday mornings and then Chaos on Sunday nights. To give back to her church community, Colby has volunteered at VBS during the summer, been an ExCon for Confirmation, gone on two youth mission trips to Kenya and Honduras with her favorite activities at RUMC being AYL, the Honduras mission trip, and Chapel Roswell.
Her greatest accomplishment during high school was being a well-rounded student who played two varsity sports, was a member of three service clubs, and played in the orchestra while maintaining a 4.2 GPA. Colby will be attending Southern Methodist University where she plans to major in accounting with a minor in Spanish as well in hopes of being able to travel back to Honduras to serve.
Logan Griffith
Logan has attended RUMC with his family and grandmother all his life. He officially joined the church when he was baptized during Confirmation in sixth grade. He grew up going to Kid Zone on Sunday mornings and then to cafe and Sunday school at the Dod. He enjoys services at Chapel Roswell and attending Independence Day and Christmas Eve concerts in the sanctuary. Among Logan’s fondest RUMC memories are attending AYL and the confirmation retreat. To give back to his community, Logan did service projects with Boy Scouts and volunteers with North Fulton Community Charities, Foster Care Foundation, and Mimosa Tutoring.
His greatest achievements in high school were being a member of the National Honor Society, serving as President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and running cross-country for four seasons. Logan was on the Principal’s Honor Roll all four years and graduated with a cumulative 4.0 GPA from Roswell High School. He will attend the University of Georgia in the fall where he will study Biology on a pre-medicine track. He then plans to go to medical school and have a career of helping others.
Samantha Reed
All of Samantha’s passions are at RUMC! She has participated and/or volunteered here since she was little. She did 45 Zone, Kidz Zone as a participant and a worship leader, VBS as an attendee and then as a leader, Youthgroup, DGroups, Confirmation as a confirmand and an ExCon, MSC as a camper and a counselor, mission trips to West Virginia and twice to Honduras, and has helped lead Middle School Bible Study for 2 years. Her favorite activities at RUMC are the Honduras mission trips, leading Middle School Bible Study and AYL.
She made the hard decision to change schools in the middle of her Sophomore year. God led her in this hard decision to leave Lassiter and move to The King’s Academy. What a blessing it was for her! She had made many great friends there and it has also made her realize she wanted to go to a smaller college. When she found Lee University, she knew it was the one for her!! She plans to major in Human Development, with hopes of becoming a Child Life Specialist.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must have been an active member of Roswell United Methodist Church for a period of at least one year prior to submission of the scholarship application.
The applicant must be pursuing post-secondary education at a college or university during the fall following their application submission.
Application must include all information requested on the application form and all needed information must be received by the application deadline.
The application and all supporting documentation must be received by the RUMC Foundation Executive Director by no later than February 1st of the year of nomination.
All scholarships will be awarded by the Board of Directors of The Roswell United Methodist Foundation, Inc., which is made up entirely of RUMC members. Leadership, academics, community service, church involvement, and high school extracurricular activities will be closely reviewed.
Applicants receiving a scholarship award and all applicants not receiving a scholarship award will be notified by the end of February.
Payment of the scholarship award will be made directly to the college or university the student at least 30-days prior to tuition deadline. It will be the responsibility of scholarship winners to inform the Foundation’s Executive Director of their final school choice so that a check can be sent to the appropriate institution. If no confirmation is received by November 1st, then the scholarship is forfeited.

Harry was born on July 12, 1926 and passed at the age of 81 years on XXXXXX.

Harry attended West Fulton High School graduating in 1943 and enlisting in the Air Force shortly thereafter. He took basic training at Keesler Field, Mississippi followed by B-29 mechanics school at Boeing Field in Seattle. He served in the Pacific Theater in the 20th Air Force as an aerial engineer. He was stationed on Guam flying frequently to Tinian and Saipan in the Mariana Islands. Other flights were to Iwo Jima and Japan. He was responsible for the mechanical functioning of the aircraft. He supervised the ground crew and flew with the C-46 and B-17 aircrafts. He was baptized in January 1946 in the Pacific Ocean at Tumon Bay, Guam.

After discharge from the Air Force, he enrolled at the Georgia Institute of Technology in January 1947, graduating in December 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry.

This big family picture was taken in November 1998 and includes eight of his ten grandchildren.

On February 16, 1951, Harry married Evelyn Mae Landers. They have X kids: NAme, Name and Name. Evelyn, his devoted wife of forty-eight years, preceded him in death in February 1999 after a three-year struggle with multiple myeloma.

After retirement, he lived in Roswell with Evelyn. He was an active member of the Roswell United Methodist Church participating in Sunday School, Traveler’s Club, the Senior Adult Council, and the PrimeTime Singers. Harry’s hobbies and interests included genealogy, square dancing, hiking, walking, and bicycling. He completed two bicycle rides across Georgia and biked on trails in South Dakota, Virginia, Florida, and the Caribbean.

In August 2003, Harry married Yvonne Gemmill, a widow from Edgerton, Minnesota, and they remained happily married until the day of his death.

Harry’s career began as a Georgia Tech Research Station analyzing ores of beryllium in connection with the investigation into the use of nuclear energy for the propulsion of aircraft. He later was employed by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration as an analytical chemist, General Services Administration where he analyzed many of the products purchased by the U. S. Government and then spent 32 years with Coca-Cola as a trade goods analysis and formula Principal Investigator He retired from Coke in 1990.
