Jancy Thorne Reavis Scholarship Endowment

The Jancy Thorne Reavis College Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Roswell United Methodist Church member who has been selected based on their consistent walk of faith, family involvement and higher education aspirations.

Dear friends,

Because of friends like you, we have reached the minimum goal of $25,000 to open the Jancy Thorne Reavis Scholarship Endowment. THANK YOU!
We sincerely appreciate the unwavering support of the RUMC community and the broader local community; your contributions have been invaluable, and it is essential for us to acknowledge how significant this support has been to the raising of our children. The principles of faith, family, and education intertwine beautifully and complement each other in profound ways.

Living a Christ-centered life, combined with Jancy’s deep passion for both family and teaching, presents a fitting tribute to honor Jancy's legacy by establishing an endowment dedicated to assisting students with their college funding needs. This endowment will generate earnings that will be awarded in the form of college scholarships, providing crucial financial support for students pursuing their educational goals.

Now that we have reached fundraising goal, all gifts and any gift hereafter is invested. After 3-years of maturing, the scholarship will be annually awarded to a RUMC active member. This student will be selected based on their consistent walk of faith and higher educational desires.

Thank you for helping us celebrate Jancy and keeping her legacy alive.

In His love,

Phil Reavis
and
Duncan and Katie Reavis

Meet Jancy

Jancy was a southern charm from Millen, GA. She graduated from Edmund Burke Academy, the University of Georgia and received her Masters in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University. She met her true love Phil in Savannah, GA, moved to Atlanta, GA and were married on May 21, 1994. After moving to Roswell in 1995, they raised two wonderful children, Katie and Duncan.

Her faith was everything to her, a cornerstone of her existence. Together with Phil, they lived a life that was deeply rooted in their shared beliefs and parented with a Christ-centered approach, positively influencing those around them. Their commitment to their faith radiated an infectious joy that was felt by everyone they encountered. This joy stemmed from her profound love for the Lord, coupled with a vibrant zest for life that truly typified her character and highlighted what she meant to all of us.

Family was her greatest passion and the cornerstone of her life. Each morning began with her cherished time spent with Katie and Duncan, where they would engage in delightful conversations about the manners of the day. She encouraged them to explore and find their own faith while providing unwavering support. Additionally, she was always on the lookout for ways to help them discover their own unique passions as they grew and matured. Her warm and inviting spirit inspired everyone around her, creating an atmosphere that made each individual feel as if they were part of her extended family.

Professionally, her passion was deeply rooted in teaching kindergarten and first grade children. She began her career as a dedicated preschool teacher at Northbrook United Methodist Preschool before transitioning to Woodland Elementary School, and ultimately, she spent the last nine years at Roswell North Elementary School, contributing to her impressive total of 18 years as a teacher. She cherished her time with her “itty bittys,” finding great joy in nurturing their potential and watching them grow and learn.

Jancy packed in a lifetime of love, fun and adventure. She was a mentor in every way possible to both the itty bitty and big ones. The world is better because of her.

We thank you for your continued remembrance of our beloved Jancy. She thought the world of each of you.
