Providing financial support to the clergy’s discretionary RUMC Help Fund
Sometimes life’s greatest obstacles are unexpected and an emergency situation can make us feel like we are drowning. The Help Fund is a confidential fund where the RUMC clergy team can offer loving support to someone within our church community who need help through darkness.

Georgia Hornor Witschy
Georgia was truly a faithful servant of God. Whether it was a long-time friend or a new acquaintance, when someone was going through something, her first thought was to provide comfort when comfort was needed most. She provided immediate ease with her ever-present radiant smile and loving eyes. She genuinely cared about their well-being and gave confidence that she would be there to continuously comfort them. Along with her presence, she would bring comfort with her chocolate chip cookies or muffins and her southern pecan pie.
Years since her passing, friends still say “she was one in a million” and remain grateful for her friendship. It is most appropriate that the proceeds from the endowment be used to continue to comfort those in need through the RUMC Help Fund.

Featured here with Seren and Henry (Jon's children) in 2009, the grandchildren were a joy for her.

Georgia was one of the “grits”-“girls raised in the South”! She gave comfort in warm smiles, hugs and her chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip muffins and pecan pies.

Family was so important to Georgia. Featured in order: Henry, Jon, Seren, Shona, Gary, Georgia, Lance, Sasha and Steele. Ryder (Lance & Sasha) was born afterwards.

Georgia married Gary in 1968 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Helena, AK. They met on a Pan Am flight while she was a flight attendant.

After graduation Georgia was employed as a Stewardess with Pan American World Airways for one year. She served on flights to South America, Central America, and Europe.

Georgia and Gary lived in Georgia, California, Ohio, New York, and Texas and she taught school in all of those locations.
Gary and Georgia joined Roswell United Methodist Church in 1979 along with their two young children. They knew it was the right place to be.

Georgia attended the University of Arkansas and earned a degree in elementary education. At the UofA she was elected president of Mortar Board, selected for “Who’s Who In American Colleges and Universities” and named “Panhellenic Woman of the Year”.

Georgia enjoyed the RUMC Susanna Wesley Ringers group for many years. There were so many close friends who came from this group that were vey dear to Georgia.

When Georgia and Gary moved to Atlanta in 1978 Georgia worked part-time jobs until 1989 and served in various volunteer capacities at RUMC where she was a member for 34 years.

In 1962, Georgia was crowned the Highschool Football Queen

She was employed for 20 years as an Executive Assistant to senior officers at four different Atlanta based corporations before she retired in 2009.

Georgia was born in Manchester, NH and grew up in Helena, Arkansas with her younger brothers, Jack and Lawson, and her younger sister, Mary Good, with Georgia as first-born.

Mom was a special woman and the most genuine person I’ve ever known. She truly had a heart of gold. Our world needs more people like her. I still think about her often and it always brings a smile to my face and sometimes a tear to my eye. We lost an amazing woman. However, I lucked out and have one of her recipe boxes. So, those muffins and pies live on!
