Meet Harry Lamar Hall

“One of his greatest gifts was teaching the kids the importance of an education.  He helped put all of his grandchildren through college…a true blessing.  I am happy to report that all of them have put their degrees to good use and have embraced a strong work ethic just like him.”

— Nancy Wells, Harry’s daughter

Harry was born on July 12, 1926 and passed at the age of 81, May 2008.
Continue reading on the life of Harry Hall.

Harry and his brother, Buddy, were raised primarily by a single mother; their parents divorced when the boys were young. Harry’s mother, Kate, worked in the supply room at Grady Memorial Hospital for many years. At one point, the family had to rely on public assistance to cover the cost of basic needs. Harry graduated from West Fulton High School on Bankhead Highway in Atlanta in 1943. After high school, Harry entered the Air Force where he served the country during the last years of WWII as an Aerial Engineer. While stationed in Guam, on January 10, 1946, Harry was baptized by a United States Army Chaplain, William R. Lawrence. On the day of his baptism, he was given the “Outline of Old Testament History” written by Chaplain Lawrence. Harry kept these 6-page documents all of these years which signifies their importance to him.
